Mobile Meals Drivers Needed in March

OSLC is responsible for delivering hot nutritious meals to residents in our area four times a year. Our first week is coming up in March. We are currently in need of drivers (and back-up drivers) for these deliveries.

Pick-up time is 11:30 a.m. at Gundersen/Lutheran and delivery takes about one hour. You may volunteer for one day or several during that week. If you have any questions, concerns, or would like to volunteer, please contact Betty Linse. This is a great way to get involved in the community!

LWR Health Kits Available Feb. 14th

Lutheran World Relief Health Kits will be available in the Narthex on February 14th. All you need to do is pick up a plastic bag and fill it with the items listed on the sheet inside. Items include:

  • hand towel
  • wash cloth
  • a bath size soap bar in its original wrapping
  • six Band Aids (½” to ¾”) held together with a rubber band
  • a metal nail file (or nail clippers w/a file attached)
  • toothbrush in its original packaging

Once again, toothpaste will NOT be included in the health kits this year. The completed health kits can be returned to the black cart located in the Narthex.

Please have the health kits back by Sunday March 28th (Palm Sunday). Thank you!

Spaghetti Dinner for WCC on February 14th

On Sunday February 14th, the Come For Supper Team will be holding a spaghetti and meatball supper from 4 pm to 7 pm in the Fellowship Hall here at OSLC.

The spaghetti meal is free; a free-will offering will be taken to benefit the Women’s Clothes Closet. Contact the Social Ministry Team with questions or if you would like to help out. All are welcome!

AMOS Volunteers Needed

AMOS (Advocating-Mobilizing-Organizing in Solidarity) is an interfaith congregation-based coalition working for justice in the La Crosse area. AMOS has formed four task forces to address issues here in La Crosse. The task forces are: Healthcare, Hmong Issues, Restorative Justice and Food Insecurity in La Crosse.

Volunteers are needed to develop a “core team” here at OSLC and/or join one of the task forces. Task forces are made up of people committed to doing justice in their parish and in the La Crosse area. AMOS is endorsed by the synod Church in Society Committee.

Our Savior’s is responsible for delivering meals to inbound residents in our area four times a year. The months are March, June, August and September. We are currently in need of drivers (and back-up drivers) for deliveries.

The pick-ups are at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital and drivers need to arrive by 11:30 a.m. on delivery day. You may volunteer for one or more days during that week.

Double Your Women’s Clothes Closet Donation!

The Women’s Clothes Closet has received a $5000 Economic Outreach Bridge Grant from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Congratulations!

The WCC also received an Economic Bridge Challenge Grant. Any funds raised for the WCC between now and March 31st will be met dollar for dollar from Thrivent up to $10,000. This is a great opportunity for the Women’s Clothes Closet to purchase some much-needed supplies!

LICAH Needs Volunteers

Do you have a desire to make a difference in someone else’s life? Do you want to put your faith into action? The Interfaith Collaborative for Affordable Housing (LICAH) is seeking individuals who can give one hour/month to be a mentor to an individual in the La Crosse area who needs someone to help them connect to resources, advocate for them, and be their friend.

There is a minimum of one year commitment. Full training and support will be provided. For more information or questions, please contact Rod Tisthammer.

New Horizon’s Angel Gift Tree Campaign Starts November 15th

The Angel Tree for New Horizon’s will be set up in the Narthex on Sunday November 15th. Please take a tag, buy the requested item, wrap your gift and then re-attach the entire tag to the package. Please bring your gift back to the church by Sunday, December 13th.

The Social Ministry Team will deliver the gifts to the New Horizon’s Women’s Shelter for Christmas. Every year we have requests for children’s clothing, games, dolls, art sets, twin sheet sets, snow pants (sizes 6X – 14), stamps and stationary/ journals, cleaning products, pillows and much more. Gas cards, gift cards for hair cuts, disposable cameras (with a gift certificate to process the film) and movie passes are always big hits at the shelter.

AMOS Meeting October 6th

The Food Insecurity Task Force of AMOS (formally known at the Hunger Task force of AMOS) will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 6th at 6:30 pm in the fellowship hall of Our Savior’s. We will be discussing a possible organic/natural food banquet and a forum involving area “food issue” groups.

This meeting is open to anyone interested in helping with food concerns in the community. Please join us!
